Kim Geon-hee Carrying an Eco Bag at the Special Prosecutor's Investigation
Kim Geon-hee, embroiled in a luxury bag bribery scandal, appeared at the Special Prosecutor's team as a suspect carrying a domestic brand nylon eco bag priced at around 90,000 won.
On the 6th, when Kim arrived at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno, Seoul, where the Special Prosecutor's office is located, she was seen firmly holding the 'Hop Hope Tote Bag' from the brand 'Billientem', which features the word 'HOPE' inscribed at the top.
This bag is currently sold out in shopping malls, with a maximum discounted price of 95,000 won (original price 148,000 won).
The manufacturer's website describes the bag as made from '100% recycled nylon yarn' and as an eco-friendly product that contributes to reducing carbon emissions and conserving energy.
"Contrasting with Dior, Fashion Controversy"
This brand is known to be one that Kim wore during the early voting of the 2022 local elections.
During the time Yoon Seok-yeol was in office, Kim consistently appeared in public with bags that met criteria such as being eco-friendly, domestically produced, cost-effective, and made from vegan leather.
Some critics voiced that it was 'contradictory' for Kim to carry an eco bag while under investigation for the luxury bag bribery allegations, suggesting that it was merely a display for the photo opportunity.
Kim is facing allegations that she received a Dior bag worth 3 million won from Pastor Choi Jae-young, a pro-unification activist in 2022. She is also accused of receiving Chanel bags and an expensive diamond necklace from the Unification Church through Geonjin-boksa Jeon Seong-bae.
Facing a total of 16 allegations including these, Kim stood at the photo line before the Special Prosecutor's investigation and said, "I sincerely apologize to the public for causing concern as someone insignificant like me. I will cooperate fully with the investigation. I apologize."
When asked by reporters, "Do you have anything to say to the public?" she briefly replied, "I'm sorry," but when asked questions regarding why she accepted luxury necklaces and bags, she remained silent and proceeded to the investigation room on the 12th floor of the same building.
