World-renowned rapper Kanye West (Ye) visited Korea for the first time in 14 years. He took off his trademark mask and blew away the hot summer with a rare live performance.
Ye performed at the 'Ye x Ty Dolla Sign Vultures Listening Experience' concert held on the 23rd at Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi-do.
This visit to Korea was for the 'VULTURES' listening party, a collaboration project with Ty Dolla Sign. Ye's last visit was for a festival performance at Naksan Beach 14 years ago, in 2010.
The scheduled start time for the performance was 8 PM, but he appeared around 9:10 PM. He was wrapped in a white mask and black clothes. The stage was a sand dune. Without special lighting or stage sets, he overwhelmed 30,000 attendees.
He sequentially played tracks from 'Vultures 1,' collaborating with Ty Dolla Sign in February this year. Starting with 'Stars,' songs like 'Fade,' 'Talking,' and 'Everybody' followed.
When 'CARNIVAL' played, the audience responded with a chorus, shouting "Go, go, go, go."
'Carnival' had previously topped the 'Billboard 200' and 'Hot 100' charts. Additionally, he showcased tracks like 'River,' 'Life Style,' and 'Sky City' from 'Vultures 2' one after another.
His extraordinary performances stood out. A group of dancers in white clothes climbed the sand dune. West led them, running around the stadium together like a cult leader.
He is famous for performing with a mask on, but he took off the mask for the Korean concert. Moreover, he lifted the microphone.
He presented a live performance, rarely ever seen. He poured out old hits like the 2007 hit songs 'Stronger' and 'Good Life.'
The excitement of the fans reached its peak. It turned into a night of frenzy. Fans couldn't hide their enthusiasm and jumped in place.
Kanye West concluded with 'Come To Life' and '24.' He shouted to the fans, "Korea, I love you."
K-pop stars also attended the concert. '2NE1's CL, Gong Minzy, Zion.T, 'NewJeans' Minji, Hani, Danielle, and 'TREASURE's Jihoon and Choi Hyunsuk watched his performance.
