Actress Kang Mina will take on her first lead role in a terrestrial TV drama.
On the 15th, KBS announced the casting lineup for ‘Youngbok, Sachiko: Drama Special 2024’.
“Kang Mina and Choi Ri will portray a poignant womance over Ha Joon,” they revealed.
‘Youngbok Sachiko: Drama Special 2024’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Youngbok Sachiko’) is a story set one year before the outbreak of the Korean War, about a Korean wife, Youngbok, and a Japanese wife, Sachiko, and their intense journey together.
Kang Mina will play the role of Youngbok, who married a missing overseas student to avoid being taken to a comfort station.
After five years of living as a widow, she meets her husband who returns with a Japanese wife.
Choi Ri will portray the Japanese wife, Minami Sachiko, who promises to be with the man she met while studying in Japan for life.
She comes to Korea while pregnant, only to find out he has another wife.
Ha Joon will play Seorim, who ends up maintaining two households.
It’s only four years after liberation that he returns to his hometown with Sachiko, realizing he had gotten married while he was missing.
A spokesperson explained, “It depicts the enduring humanism that persisted despite the historical tragedy, through the times of two women who had to fiercely struggle and survive.”
Meanwhile, ‘Youngbok, Sachiko’ will air on the 19th of next month at 10:45 PM.
