Jung Cheong-rae claims ‘dissolution of the People Power Party’… Ahn Cheol-soo says “shut your mouth”

Ahn Cheol-soo strongly criticizes Jeong Cheong-rae for claiming 'dissolution of the People Power Party'

Ahn Cheol-soo, a candidate for the leadership of the People Power Party, vehemently criticized Jeong Cheong-rae, the leader of the Democratic Party, who claimed the dissolution of the People Power Party, saying, "Please shut your mouth."

On the 10th, Ahn posted on his Facebook, "Jeong Cheong-rae, please close your mouth. As long as Ahn Cheol-soo is here, there will be no dissolution of the party."

He concluded with, "Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party should not forget the warning from the Constitutional Court."

This is interpreted as a response to Jeong's claim for the dissolution of the People Power Party, stating the example of the Unified Progressive Party via his Facebook on the same day.

Jeong Cheong-rae mentions the case of the dissolution of the Unified Progressive Party while claiming 'dissolution of the People Power Party'

Jeong stated, "According to the example of the Unified Progressive Party, the People Power Party should be dissolved 10 times, 100 times," explaining, "The Unified Progressive Party was dissolved due to allegations of conspiracy to commit insurrection and inciting insurrection, and 5 members of the National Assembly lost their positions."

He criticized, "A party was dissolved for conspiracy and incitement that were not executed, but the crimes of Yoon Seok-yeol, a member of the People Power Party who executed an insurrection, are surely 10 times or 100 times more serious than those of the Unified Progressive Party, aren't they?"

Meanwhile, the Unified Progressive Party was dissolved on December 19, 2014, through the Constitutional Court's ruling of 'dissolution of the party.' This marks the first case of party dissolution in the history of the Republic of Korea.

At that time, the Constitutional Court determined that the purposes and activities of the party were contrary to the democratic basic order, ordering the dissolution of the party while simultaneously stripping 5 of its National Assembly members of their positions.

Subsequently, in February 2015, the Supreme Court confirmed 'not guilty' for the conspiracy charges against the Unified Progressive Party, but the Constitutional Court dismissed it, stating there were no grounds for retrial.
