JTBC has issued a warning against fake news related to the Western District Court riot and has announced plans for strong legal action.

On the 20th, JTBC released a statement addressing misinformation surrounding the Western District Court riot. This was to rectify rumors claiming a JTBC reporter was involved in the incident.

The outlet stated, "The rumor that the person carrying a fire extinguisher or the one breaking the glass door and entering the judge's office was a JTBC reporter is false." They explained that the reporter's name had been mentioned online, but this information was incorrect, as the reporter was confirmed to be elsewhere on the 19th of that day.

JTBC has submitted the original footage taken at the time to the court. They anticipated that "individuals who engaged in violent actions will all be identified through police investigation."

Furthermore, they added, "The team that filmed the riot for JTBC Newsroom did not participate in any violent acts during the reporting process." They clarified the reason for coverage, stating, "While reporting, we observed efforts to identify and target a specific judge, which led us to believe it was necessary to scrutinize and report the situation thoroughly."

They urged restraint from spreading rumors. The outlet conveyed that such acts amounted to "defaming a reporter and JTBC through false information and obstructing business through misinformation."

They also warned, "Regardless of whether individuals or groups are involved, we will pursue civil and criminal legal actions against all those who write and spread related falsehoods."
