It has been confirmed that a KBS journalist is among the victims of the Jeju Air disaster. KBS expressed deep condolences.
KBS released a statement on the 30th, stating, "We cannot conceal our grief upon learning that beloved KBS family members, including a journalist from the Gwangju bureau and retired colleagues, are among the victims of the Jeju Air disaster."
Additionally, KBS stated, "As the national broadcaster and disaster broadcast host, we will do our utmost to identify the cause of the accident and ensure that the bereaved families receive comprehensive support."
KBS management began the executive meeting with a moment of silence for the victims. "We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the repose of those who lost their lives in this accident," they said.
The Jeju Air disaster occurred on the 29th when flight 7C2216 collided with airport facilities during belly landing at Muan Airport in Jeollanam-do. Out of 181 persons on board, 179 people, excluding two crew members, were killed.
The authorities have recovered all the victims' bodies. The funerals will proceed after further consultations. The government has designated a national mourning period from the 29th to January 4th.
