The movie 'Joker: Folie à Deux' (directed by Todd Phillips) has surpassed 'Veteran 2' (directed by Ryoo Seung-wan). It has claimed the number one spot at the box office.
'Joker: Folie à Deux' (hereinafter 'Joker 2') was released in Korea on the 1st. According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, it attracted 166,509 viewers on its opening day.
The box office success is expected to continue through the weekend. As of the morning of the 2nd, 'Joker 2' has a reservation rate of 26.7%. With 77,751 pre-sales, it maintained the top spots in both box office and reservation rates.
'Joker 2' is a sequel to the original Joker (2019). It tells the story of Arthur Fleck (played by Joaquin Phoenix) meeting his admirer Lee Quinzel (played by Lady Gaga).
Reactions to the film have been mixed. Negative feedback seems to overshadow positive reviews. The Golden Egg Index, a rating system by CGV for actual moviegoers, has dropped to 62%.
'Veteran 2' has fallen to second place at the box office. This happened 19 days after its release. It attracted 114,346 viewers in one day. So far, it has gathered an audience of 6,603,776.
In third place is 'Wild Robot' (directed by Chris Sanders), which was watched by 53,494 viewers. 'Laws of Love in the Big City' (directed by Lee Eon-hee) followed with 52,696 viewers.
