Han Dong-hoon: "The real historical insurrection is the pardon of Yoon Mi-hyang on Liberation Day"
Former representative Han Dong-hoon of the People Power Party directly rebutted the Democratic Party leader Jung Cheong-rae's statement about "historical insurrection."
On the 20th, Han posted on his social media, stating, "It is laughable for the party leader to raise his voice about 'historical insurrection' and try to teach and lecture the people," and strongly criticized, "The real historical insurrection is to grant a pardon to Yoon Mi-hyang on August 15, Liberation Day."
This appears to be a response to Jung Cheong-rae's comments during the Democratic Party's Supreme Committee meeting on the 18th, where he defined the congratulatory remarks by Kim Hyung-seok, the director of the Independence Hall, about the Liberation Day ceremony and the claim regarding the founding of the Republic of Korea on August 15, 1948, as "historical insurrection."

Position on the debate regarding the founding date of the Republic of Korea
Han emphasized, "We can proudly celebrate both August 15, 1919, and August 15, 1948," highlighting that both dates are a source of pride that makes one's heart race.
He stated, "President Syngman Rhee, who founded the Republic of Korea recognized under international law on August 15, 1948, was also proud of the legitimacy of the Provisional Government," explaining, "On that very day, President Rhee's commemorative speech concluded with, 'Republic of Korea, August 15, 30 years, President Syngman Rhee.'"
Han interpreted President Rhee's view of the establishment of the Provisional Government in 1919 as the beginning of the Republic of Korea, adding, "For reference, former President Kim Dae-jung regarded 1948 as the founding year and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding in 1998."
He continued, "Very few people fail to understand the context presented by those who mention the founding of 1919 and those who speak of the founding of 1948," asserting that rather than engaging in such disputes, "we need to focus on people's livelihoods, manage the economy, and prevent diplomatic issues during this time."
