Former professional baseball player Jang Won-sam (41) caused a drunk driving accident. He will be stepping down from the show he was appearing on.

On the 19th, JTBC's 'Strongest Baseball' announced, "We inform you that Jang Won-sam will be stepping down from the program due to a recent unfortunate incident."

He decided to step down on his own, considering the social controversy. "Jang Won-sam deeply regrets this incident and feels fully responsible," they added.

The production team of 'Strongest Baseball' decided to respect his wishes. "We will edit out Jang Won-sam's appearances as much as possible," they explained.

Jang Won-sam was involved in a minor collision around 1 PM on the 17th at a road in Gwang-an-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan. He backed into another vehicle.

The police who responded checked Jang Won-sam's blood alcohol level. It was reported to be at a level that warrants license revocation (0.08% BAC).

On the 18th, he acknowledged the accident via social media. "It's true that I caused a minor collision while driving under the influence. There is no excuse. I am genuinely sorry for disappointing everyone," he said, bowing his head.

He explained the circumstances of the accident. He had drinks with friends on the 16th and returned home by taxi. He drove about nine hours later and then had the accident.

"I have caused hurt and disappointment to everyone because of my mistake. I sincerely apologize. I am deeply disappointed in myself as well," Jang Won-sam wrote.

He added, "There will be a police investigation next week, and I will admit my wrongdoing and reflect without any deception. I am truly sorry," he apologized again.

Jang Won-sam joined the Hyundai Unicorns in 2006 and later played for Samsung, LG, and Lotte. He retired in 2020 and has been appearing on 'Strongest Baseball' since 2022.
