DL Construction Executives Resign en Masse Following Worker Fall Incident

A worker in his 50s fell to his death at a construction site for an apartment in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, prompting DL Construction to enter an emergency situation.

All executives, including CEO Kang Yoon-ho, have submitted their resignations.

On the 11th, DL Construction announced, "CEO Kang Yoon-ho, along with Chief Safety Officer (CSO) Ha Jeong-min and the entire executive team, team leaders, and site managers have all submitted their resignations."

A total of over 80 individuals are included in this resignation submission.

Work Suspended at All 44 Nation-Wide Sites… To Resume After Safety Inspection

DL Construction has expressed its commitment to prevent further fatalities. Immediately after the incident, all operations at 44 construction sites nationwide were halted. The company stated, "We will not resume work until we have conducted an emergency safety inspection across the entire organization and confirmed safety," adding, "We will prioritize accident recovery and strengthening safety measures."

Although the financial losses from this decision are expected to be significant, the company reportedly plans to bear all losses.

In connection with this, a DL Construction representative explained, "The resignation of the over 80 individuals can be accepted at any time. This demonstrates a strong commitment to preventing further industrial accident fatalities."

He further stated, "We plan to suspend construction and bear the losses until all safety measures are in place and fully verified," and added, "We will ensure the current situation is well concluded."

DL Construction has also initiated a safety pledge event for its headquarters staff. Following that, they plan to hold the event at sites where safety has been completely secured.

Earlier, the parent company DL E&C suspended work at more than 80 construction sites nationwide for safety inspections on the 9th and 10th. Work will resume only at certain sites upon approval from the CSO starting from the 11th.

POSCO E&C CEO Resigns After Industrial Death Incident

Meanwhile, on the 5th, POSCO E&C CEO Jeong Hee-min also resigned. He stepped down to take responsibility for the succession of industrial death incidents.

With a week's interval, the CEOs of two major construction companies have expressed their intention to resign, bringing a sense of fear to the construction sites. President Lee Jae-myung's directive for direct reports regarding "industrial death incidents" has also heightened this fear.

On the 12th, news emerged that the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor have launched a search of POSCO E&C’s offices, further spreading tension throughout the industry.
