“I’ll settle it with insurance”… What a woman in her 30s said after setting a fire that killed her neighbor in a studio apartment.

A 30-year-old woman who caused the death of a neighboring resident in an arson incident pleaded for leniency in her first trial.

In the first hearing of the case involving 강모 (30) for arson and manslaughter, held on the 24th at the Jeonju District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Kim Hyun-Ji), the defense attorney stated, "The defendant admits to all charges."

The attorney explained, "Although the defendant currently lacks economic means, she is insured," adding, "This case could be covered by the insurance, and even if the amount is not substantial, she will repay the victims."

The court decided to conduct a sentencing investigation to ascertain the detailed circumstances of the crime and plans to review the conclusion of arguments after the next court date.

**Sentencing Investigation**

A large disaster began with a vehicle fire, causing property damage exceeding 100 million won.

The fire started in the vehicle driven by 강씨 and spread to eight cars parked in the apartment complex's parking lot and to the building, resulting in property damage totaling approximately 110 million won, and was extinguished within about 30 minutes.

Other residents also inhaled smoke, but no additional human casualties occurred.

It has been reported that 강씨 stated during police investigations, "I tried to commit suicide in the car."

The sentencing investigation is a system where court investigators directly review the defendant's personal information and motives for the crime, which will be reflected in the sentencing decision.

The next trial is scheduled for the 22nd of next month.
