Shoes Ordered from China Disappear into Powder… Safety and Quality Controversies Arise
A recent story about a man who experienced a shocking incident after wearing shoes ordered from the popular Chinese online shopping mall TEMU has garnered attention online.

On the 3rd of last month, a post titled "Take a Look at the Shoes Bought from TEMU" was shared on an online community, accompanied by photos of the shoes. The shoes in the photos were in such a damaged state that their original shape was hard to identify.
According to the photos released that day, it appears the poster wore the shoes ordered from TEMU before getting into a vehicle.

The brand new, pristine white shoes indicated that the poster had recently purchased them.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long before the soles of the new shoes completely disintegrated into powder.
Some netizens raised suspicions that the soles might have been deliberately rubbed on the ground. However, since cracks and holes were visible in the soles from the very first photos posted by the creator, it is presumed that the quality of the shoes was inherently very low.

In addition to the quality controversy, issues regarding safety concerning these Chinese direct-purchase shoes have also been raised.
In May, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that they had inspected 24 summer products for children being sold on TEMU, Xiuin, AliExpress, and found that 14 of these products contained harmful substances exceeding domestic standards by up to 33 times, resulting in a verdict of non-compliance.
Based on these findings, the Seoul Metropolitan Government requested the cessation of sales for the non-compliant products on each platform and urged special caution when purchasing overseas direct-purchase products, especially children's items.
