Jeong Cheong-rae, the new representative of the Democratic Party, visits the disaster site in Naju as his first official act
Jeong Cheong-rae, elected as the new leader of the Democratic Party, caught attention by choosing to visit the flood-stricken area in Naju, Jeollanam-do, instead of the traditional bow at the National Memorial Cemetery as his first public schedule after taking office.

On the 3rd, Representative Jeong visited an cucumber farm in Noan-myeon, Naju, which was damaged due to heavy rainfall, and directly participated in the recovery efforts. He assisted in the restoration work by removing rotten stems and waste plastic along with party leaders, including Jeon Hyun-hee, Kim Byeong-joo, and Hwang Myeong-seon, and local lawmakers inside a greenhouse.

Afterward, Representative Jeong met with reporters and stated, "I thought it was essential to come to Honam as my first schedule after the party convention."
Jeong expressed a strong commitment to the development of Honam, mentioning the words of a local government leader in Honam: "They say that Honam has contributed significantly to the development of democracy in the Republic of Korea, but what has the state done for the economic development of Honam?"
He further stated, "In line with the (Lee Jae-myung government's) national policy philosophy that special sacrifices must be met with special rewards, I am determined to do something significant to repay the people of Honam under my leadership."

The Representative emphasized, "There is no different livelihood," stating, "We must go out to comfort the flood victims suffering from the heavy rains and empathize with the citizens who are struggling with the heat, conveying their sentiments to be well reflected in the policies, which is also the role of the party."
The farmer he met on site expressed gratitude, saying, "It really helped that you came all the way here to assist."
Prior to this, during the party representative election period, Jeong paused his campaign to help with flood recovery efforts as nationwide heavy rainfall occurred.

This action appears to be closely related to the overwhelming support he received from the Honam region during the party convention.
Representative Jeong was elected with a voter approval rate of 61.74%, surpassing Park Chan-dae, who garnered 38.26%. Notably, in the Honam region, he recorded a high approval rate of 66.49%.
