“I was told that my hourly wage would be raised if I did a good job… After working for 9 days, a 23-year-old part-timer questioned, ‘You said you would raise it.’”

"New hire who doesn't even recycle demands an increase in hourly wage after just two weeks"… Ridiculous request from a military-experienced part-timer

A story has emerged about a self-employed individual who is troubled by a twenty-something part-timer asking for a wage increase just two weeks into the job.

On the 1st, a post titled "23-year-old part-timer with military experience earning 11,000 won per hour in his second week" appeared on a thread, along with excerpts from a KakaoTalk conversation between the owner and the part-timer.

On that day, the author, A, expressed frustration to internet users, stating, "During the interview, you said I would get a raise if I performed well. Is it correct for that to apply after just two weeks?"

According to the conversation shared by A, the part-timer B suddenly contacted A asking, "When will you raise my hourly wage, boss?"

In response, A asked, "How long have you even been working to say such things?" to which B replied, "You said you would raise it."

The issue is that B had only worked a total of nine days over the two weeks, leading to dissatisfaction among other staff members, including A, due to B studying English words alone while others were working.

Furthermore, B has left the workplace without taking care of relatively difficult tasks like disposing of food waste and previously complained to the manager that "the hourly wage is too low."

In light of B's shameless demands, A retorted, "Is there any part of your work that has improved? Have you even been here a month? If you do well, won’t I raise it on my own?"

A, who has been patiently helping the newly discharged, inexperienced part-timer by even covering fuel costs to assist with the transition, now faces poor work attitudes and demands for higher wages in return.

Ultimately, A told B, "It seems like this job isn’t a good fit for you, so I suggest you consider it." However, B reportedly expressed that they wished to continue working.

Most internet users who came across this story reacted with comments like, "Are they really military-experienced? If it were me, I would find a way to make them quit," "I've seen all sorts of crazy cases, but this is truly unique," and "People like this are the reason young people are collectively criticized."

One user even suggested, "It might be a good idea to specifically explain under what circumstances wage increases are given."
