“I was just curious about the dog’s reaction” – Words from the perpetrator of the BB gun shooting… Parents ‘threaten’ the victim.

"Just curious about the reaction"… BB gun shooting with stones and fists

Two active-duty Marines and one civilian illegally entered a private property in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, and brutally attacked a pet dog with BB guns. The incident has caused public outrage as it has been revealed that the perpetrators' parents threatened the victim's dog owner, stating they would file a false accusation.

On the 19th, the Korean Animal Rescue Welfare Association released interview contents with the victims through their YouTube channel "Walking with Uncle Dog and Dog Behavior Correction."

According to victims' testimonies, it was revealed that the perpetrators meticulously prepared for the crime by tracking the locations of the pet dogs a day prior.

One dog owner stated, "They cornered the dog inside the doghouse and shot it indiscriminately from a few centimeters away with no way to escape," adding, "They threw stones and even punched the dog when it came closer on a leash." They fired hundreds of BB rounds at four pet dogs for nearly an hour, resulting in one dog's death and two others sustaining serious injuries.

"Just a joke" → "Because of alcohol" → "Curious about the reaction"… Inconsistent statements

When asked about the motive behind their actions, the perpetrators' responses reportedly changed frequently. The dog owner noted, "At first, they said it was because the dog bit them. Later, they said it was a joke, and then they changed it again to say it was because they had been drinking."

However, upon confirming with the pension where they stayed, it was found that the perpetrators had consumed only four small cans of beer.

The dog owner sighed, saying, "In the end, the last thing I heard was that they were just curious about the dog’s reaction, which was completely incomprehensible."

Victims reconstructing the scene believe that the acts were not impulsive but rather premeditated. Most importantly, the attitude of some of the perpetrators and their families after the incident has further shocked the victims.

"You're all dead," and they even took photos… Dog owners in fear considering relocation

Among the three perpetrators, only one offered an apology, while another’s parent threatened the victim's dog owner with a false accusation.

One dog owner revealed, "That parent even came to our house and yelled, 'You’re all dead now,' and took photos of our house," explaining, "I’m mentally exhausted, and I tremble in fear whenever someone just drives by, wondering if they are related to this incident."

They added, "I shudder whenever I see military uniforms. It's hard to believe that a soldier, who is supposed to protect the public, could enter a civilian’s house and commit such acts," stating, "Now, I’m afraid even of soldiers." The victim’s dog owners are currently considering relocating.

The incident occurred around 1:15 am on the 8th. Three men in their 20s secretly entered the private property and shot at four pet dogs with BB guns for nearly an hour, resulting in one dog dying after treatment and two others suffering serious injuries. The remaining dog is reportedly experiencing extreme trauma.

The police have sent the two active-duty soldiers back to their military units and are investigating the civilian for violations of the Animal Protection Act and property damage charges.
