The "paper straw" was first introduced in South Korea in 2018 with the intent of protecting the environment.

However, about seven years have passed, and consumer complaints regarding paper straws have persisted.

Interestingly, a beverage brand that has proactively responded to these consumer complaints has recently made headlines. This is Nongshim's "Capri Sun."

In February 2023, Capri Sun introduced paper straws with the intention of being environmentally friendly. However, complaints began to arise among consumers, stating things like, "It becomes flimsy after just a little use," "It tastes like paper every time I drink," and "The paper straw struggles to penetrate the pouch."

Nongshim did not overlook these consumer complaints. In November 2024, after switching back to plastic straws, Capri Sun went a step further by directly contacting each customer who had voiced their discomfort.

This was done to express gratitude for their feedback.

Capri Sun delivered a heartfelt gift, which included an apology for the inconvenience, a box of products, a customer card, and even cute sticker goodies.

The warm message, "Thank you for your valuable feedback. We will strive to repay you with better products and services. Have a wonderful day with the newly switched plastic straw Capri Sun!" touched the consumers.

In fact, those who received a special apology from Capri Sun started sharing their experiences on social media and online communities, catching the attention of netizens.

Reviews included comments like, "I had questioned about the discomfort with Capri Sun straws about two years ago, and I received a gift with stickers and a letter. I didn't expect to be thanked in this way, but it's great to exchange various kinds of attention," and "I posted a message to the Capri Sun customer service asking them to switch to plastic straws, and recently I received a text from Nongshim. They said Capri Sun has switched to plastic straws and will send me a drink. I really didn’t expect this change; it was just a message I sent once."
