On the 26th, JTBC unveiled the script reading session of the new weekend drama "More Beautiful Than Heaven" (written by Lee Nam-kyu & Kim Su-jin, directed by Kim Seok-yun). It set the expectation for a warm-hearted series.
"More Beautiful Than Heaven" is a romance transcending life. It narrates the story of Lee Hae-sook (played by Kim Hye-ja) who goes to heaven in her 80-year-old form and reunites with her 30-year-old husband, Go Nak-jun (played by Son Suk-ku).
Present at the rehearsal were director Kim Seok-yun, writers Lee Nam-kyu and Kim Su-jin. The actors, including Kim Hye-ja, Son Suk-ku, Han Ji-min, Lee Jung-eun, Cheon Ho-jin, and Ryu Deok-hwan, also attended.
The script reading proceeded in a cheerful atmosphere, promising explosive acting synergy. The cast displayed impeccable performances, making their first collaboration seem effortless.
Kim Hye-ja showcased her presence as the 80-year-old wife, Lee Hae-sook, illustrating a versatile persona. She skillfully depicted everything from family charisma to mischievous charm.
Son Suk-ku took on the role of Hae-sook’s husband, Go Nak-jun. Shedding his previous images, he humorously transformed his acting. Their chemistry as a couple spanning 40 years brought smiles to everyone.
Han Ji-min plays the mysterious woman, Sumi. She appears in heaven having lost her memory, adding intrigue with her living arrangement at Hae-sook and Nak-jun’s place.
Lee Jung-eun plays Lee Young-ae, Hae-sook's successor. Young-ae is known as the "bullfrog" in the installment world, showcasing prowess with slyness and detailed emotional acting.
Additionally, Cheon Ho-jin acts as the head of the Heaven Support Center, a godfather figure to Hae-sook. Ryu Deok-hwan, as a pastor, creates a "frenemy" rapport with Kim Hye-ja with quick-witted exchanges.
The production team stated, “From the first meeting, the script reading setting was comfortable and warm,” adding, “You can look forward to the passionate performances and synergy of actors portraying heaven realistically.”
With interest brewing for the show, it hinted at a densely packed storyline. "A profound and extensive life story about more than just romance, dealing with life and death, is set to unfold," they added.
