
Actor Uhm Tae-goo is set to transform his character. On the 29th, the production team of the Disney+ original series ‘The Lamp Shop’ (directed by Kim Hee-won) unveiled stills of the character Hyun-min, played by Uhm Tae-goo. It showed a completely different vibe from his previous works. He portrayed an ordinary office worker. Wearing round glasses, a red shirt, and a gray suit, he carried a briefcase. He gave a mysterious look to a stranger he encounters daily.
Regarding his decision to join this project, Uhm Tae-goo said, “The first reason was the script, which was incredibly powerful,” adding, “It was scary but sad, peculiar but warm.” He was captivated by author Kang Full’s unique storytelling. He expressed satisfaction, stating, “(‘The Lamp Shop’) contained both twists and resonance. It was a work like nothing I had ever seen before.”
He also expressed trust in actor Kim Hee-won. ‘The Lamp Shop’ marks Kim Hee-won’s directorial debut. Uhm Tae-goo added, “I had 100% trust in the versatile director Kim Hee-won.” He collaborated with the production team to fully convey his character. “I worked closely with the director, discussing many aspects,” he recalled.
Director Kim Hee-won praised Uhm Tae-goo, saying, “He often played intense roles, so I wanted to see him shy and portraying an ordinary role. He did exceptionally well.” Kang Full also expressed satisfaction, stating, “Hyun-min is the most realistic character in ‘The Lamp Shop,’ and Uhm Tae-goo portrayed it naturally. I was very pleased.”
Meanwhile, ‘The Lamp Shop’ is about a lamp shop visited by customers with mysterious secrets. The original author, Kang Full, who also wrote ‘Moving,’ is responsible for the script.
