Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, commenting on the investigation of former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his spouse by the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor's team, remarked on the concept of "karmic retribution."
On the 27th, former Mayor Hong criticized on his social media, stating, "The special prosecutor is doing the same kind of sweeping investigation as Yoon Seok-yeol and Han Dong-hoon did," referring to the similarities between the investigation methods used against former President Park Geun-hye and those currently employed against former President Yoon Seok-yeol. He pointed out that "karmic retribution is unavoidable."

Former Mayor Hong stated, "Seeing the special prosecutor investigating former President Yoon's involvement in nominations as a violation of election law, I recalled how Yoon Seok-yeol and Han Dong-hoon investigated former President Park's involvement in nominations as a violation of the election law during the abuse of power investigation."
Currently, the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor's team is expanding a comprehensive investigation, conducting searches related to former President Yoon's nomination-related actions.

Former Mayor Hong expressed bitterness as he reminisced about the investigation of former President Park Geun-hye.
He stated, "(At that time, the prosecution) defined the political practice of a president being involved in nominations through their party's secretary-general as a crime, requesting a total of 35 years imprisonment, and 3 years were sentenced for the nomination involvement." He added, "I couldn't shake off the thought that they were trying to keep her from ever coming back by sweeping up even the smallest dust."
Notably, former Mayor Hong emphasized that the fact that former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who investigated the 'Park Geun-hye and Choi Soon-sil Gate' and other abuse of power cases during the past Park Yong-soo special prosecutor team's investigation, is now being investigated for the same allegations serves as a reminder that "karmic retribution is unavoidable."

Furthermore, former Mayor Hong proposed that if elected as president through the election, existing party positions should be relinquished.
He referenced the comments made by Yoon Hee-suk, the head of the Yeouido Research Institute, saying, "The suggestion that the president should step down from their political party to operate the government neutrally has come to mind again."
Previously, Yoon had suggested during his speech on party principles and policies for the 21st presidential election that "the president should become the president of all the people" and proposed, "On the first day of taking office, they should abandon their party affiliation."
