Teen High School Student Arrested for Stealing Gold Necklace from Jewelry Store
The Daejeon West Police Station recently arrested a teenage high school student, referred to as A, on charges of stealing a gold necklace from a jewelry store.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of the 2nd at a jewelry store in the Seo-gu district of Daejeon. A acted as if he were purchasing jewelry, but then grabbed a gold necklace worth approximately 6.3 million won (about 5,200 USD) weighing 10 don and fled the scene.
The police quickly responded based on testimony from the victim and witnesses, apprehending A after pursuing him for about 50 meters.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that A is a student attending a high school in the Sejong area. Furthermore, he has a history of being punished for similar crimes in the past.

This incident raises concerns that the number of jewelry thefts may increase due to the recent rise in gold prices.
A police official stated, “The skyrocketing gold prices may lead to an increase in crimes targeting jewelry.” He urged the public to report any incidents immediately if they occur. The police are working to strengthen surveillance in collaboration with the local community to prevent such crimes.
