Chief Judge Jang Chan-soo stated, "The defendant used his position as a senior soldier to commit a considerable number of offenses against the junior soldier victims," and added, "Particularly the acts of intimidation are subject to significant criticism given the nature of the offenses, and the quality of the crime is poor."

He continued, "However, I take into account the fact that he has reached an agreement with the victims, confessed, and shows remorse as mitigating circumstances."
