The leader of a hacking organization, identified as Jeon Mo (34), who misused the names of figures such as 'BTS' Jungkook and large corporate chairpersons, has partially confessed to the crimes.

On the 25th, an official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated at a regular press briefing, "The suspect has confessed to some of the charges while also denying others. We plan to conduct a thorough investigation based on the evidence collected so far."

Jeon is a Chinese national. He is accused of hacking into the websites of domestic telecommunications companies and stealing assets between August 2023 and January of last year (violating the Information and Communications Network Act).

Jungkook is also a victim. He was hacked while serving in the military in January of last year. Jeon unauthorizedly opened a securities account under Jungkook's name and sold approximately 100 million won worth of stocks to a third party. Jungkook was able to recover the amount through a civil lawsuit in March.

It has been determined that Jeon also misused the names of corporate leaders ranked within the top 30 and representatives of venture companies. He opened low-cost phone lines in the name of the victims and siphoned off money from their financial accounts and additional asset accounts.

Jeon was repatriated to the country from Thailand on the 22nd. The police captured him in collaboration with Thai authorities. He was arrested on the 24th.

The total amount identified as victim losses is approximately 38 billion won. A police official reported, "We have apprehended all 16 members involved in the incident and detained 2 of them."

The police plan to transfer Jeon to the prosecutors for detention this week and will commence formal investigations with the victims. "We need to confirm the scale of the damages, so this is a necessary matter," the official explained.
