Yoon Soo, the elderly grandmother and victim of the Japanese military 'comfort women,' has expressed strong opposition to President Lee Jae-myung's statements regarding the historical issues between Korea and Japan.
Grandmother Yoon clearly stated, "I can never accept the 2015 agreement."

In a YouTube video released yesterday (21st) by the 'Citizens’ Group with Grandmothers of the Comfort Women,' Grandmother Yoon shared her stance, saying, "I was shocked when I read the article in the morning."
She emphasized, "We need to resolve conflicts with Japan cleanly, and students should learn about the comfort women issue while interacting."
In particular, Grandmother Yoon made a direct request to President Lee Jae-myung.
She said, "I hope President Lee will meet with me when he returns from Japan; I request this." She also urged the Japanese government to register the comfort women issue with UNESCO.
President Lee Jae-myung's stance on historical issues between Korea and Japan and future plans

Earlier, President Lee stated in an interview with the Yomiuri Shimbun that regarding the 2015 Korea-Japan comfort women agreement, "As a Korean citizen, it is a very difficult agreement to accept made by the previous administration," but added, "It is a promise made by the state, so it is undesirable to overturn it."
This is interpreted as a means to maintain the 2015 Korea-Japan agreement related to the victims of the Japanese military 'comfort women' signed during the Park Geun-hye administration and the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's decision on forced labor compensation through a third party.
However, President Lee also added, "It is right for apologies to be made sincerely until the wounded hearts of the other party are healed."
Meanwhile, President Lee is scheduled to visit Japan for the first time since taking office on the 23rd to hold a summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Ahead of this meeting, President Lee expressed his intention to discuss "what aspects we can cooperate on" and to expand cooperation in the fields of economy, security, and human exchanges.
