Glass window falls onto sidewalk from 10th floor building in Incheon… “Passerby almost had a serious accident”

Incheon Building's 10th Floor Glass Window Fall Accident Exposes Risk of Human Casualties

A dangerous incident occurred in a building in Incheon when an unanchored glass window fell from the 10th floor.

According to a report by JTBC's "Incident Command," on the evening of the 13th, a glass window fell onto the sidewalk from the 10th floor of the building, putting pedestrians in a harrowing situation.

A witness who operates a café nearby stated, "There were citizens walking around the area where the glass window fell," adding, "It could have resulted in a major human incident."

At the time of the accident, a hospital expansion was underway on the 10th floor, and it has been confirmed that the glass window was not properly secured due to the negligence of the interior company, leading it to be blown away and fall due to strong winds.

Continued Conflict Over Glass Fragment Damage and Compensation Issues

Since the workers of the construction company had already left for the day at the time of the accident, the witness and the building management staff had to personally clean up the broken glass fragments. However, there were limits to the complete cleanup.

The witness explained, "The broken glass pieces are deeply embedded in the artificial turf in front of the store, making them impossible to remove," adding, "Customers are continuously stepping on these glass fragments and entering the store."

Moreover, the post-incident handling has become more problematic.

According to the witness, the estimated replacement cost for the artificial turf damaged by the glass fragments is about 800,000 KRW, but the company has shown a passive attitude towards compensation, arguing, "The cost is too high," leading to ongoing conflict.

There is growing criticism that improvements are needed in building safety management and appropriate compensation systems following accidents.
