Former President Moon Jae-in Strongly Opposes "Absurd and Outrageous Indictment" by Prosecutors

Former President Moon Jae-in strongly condemned the prosecution’s indictment on bribery charges without detention, labeling it as "absurd and outrageous." Candidates for the presidential primary from the Democratic Party also raised their voices in criticism, calling it "political repression and revenge against the former government."

On the 24th, Yoon Gun-young, a Democratic Party member belonging to the party’s countermeasure committee for political repression of the former government, held a press briefing and conveyed Former President Moon's position, stating, "He said this from his residence in Pyeongsan Village."

Former President Moon stated, "This can only be viewed as retaliatory indictment against the indictment and impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol," and declared, "I will take this opportunity to reveal how absurdly and improperly the prosecutorial power is being exercised and abused, beyond just clarifying the truth in court."

He further expressed his commitment by stating, "I will not only file criminal complaints against the illegal acts of the prosecution, such as the abuse of investigative authority, but I will also regard this as an opportunity to reform the prosecution."

Democratic Party and Presidential Primary Candidates Unite in Criticism of "Political Revenge"

The countermeasure committee claimed that the background of this indictment involves political calculations surrounding the early presidential elections.

They pointed out, "Due to the outrageous crime of the illegal martial law on December 3 by former President Yoon Seok-yeol, the prosecution has begun to meddle in politics again in light of the upcoming early elections."

They strongly criticized, "Although former President Yoon was removed from office, the remnants of Yoon Seok-yeol's group, including the prosecution, are making their last desperate attempts."

The Democratic Party also stated that the prosecution’s indictment of Former President Moon should be viewed as "a political indictment aimed at humiliating a former president and tarnishing the Democratic Party, nothing more and nothing less."

Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, condemned the actions in a written briefing, saying, "The prosecution has crossed the final line they should not have crossed," and reiterated, "This is a political indictment aimed at humiliating a former president and tarnishing the Democratic Party, nothing more and nothing less."

Presidential primary candidates from the Democratic Party also raised their voices in criticism.

Kang Yu-jeong, spokesperson for the campaign of candidate Lee Jae-myung, argued, "It appears clear that there is political repression and revenge against the former government by the prosecution," stating, "We must end the era of a political prosecution that covers up real crimes and fabricates nonexistent ones while abusing power."

Candidate Kim Dong-yeon sharply criticized, "The prosecution couldn't even file an appeal against the released insurrection leader but has drawn out the blade of madness against a former president."
