Hong Joon-pyo, the Mayor of Daegu, conveyed a message of condolence for the late former lawmaker Jang Je-won.
Mayor Hong expressed his deep sorrow through his Facebook, stating, "If one had the courage to die, perhaps that courage could have led to living."

He further revealed his regret by asking, "Was it that difficult to endure humiliation and disgrace?"
The mayor also added, "God does not give trials that humans cannot bear," and expressed a prayer for Jang to find peace in another world, reflecting his personal feelings regarding the sudden news of the former lawmaker's death.
Former lawmaker Jang Je-won was found dead on the 31st of last month at a location in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. A suicide note left for his family was discovered at the scene, which included the words, "I love you. Thank you." His funeral will be held at Busan Baek Hospital.

Jang had served as a three-term lawmaker and was the vice-president of Busan Digital University. However, he was under investigation for allegations of sexual violence against his former aide, A. A claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Jang and alleged that he had paid 20 million KRW to cover it up. Jang has consistently denied the allegations.
A's side had planned to hold a press conference to clarify the circumstances surrounding the charges but canceled it on the day. These events appear to have significantly impacted Jang's life.
