The power of a true story was strong. The movie ‘Firefighter’ (directed by Kwak Kyung-taek) has surpassed the 2 million audience mark. According to the integrated computer network for movie ticket sales by the Korean Film Council, ‘Firefighter’ attracted 81,230 viewers on the 18th.
The cumulative audience reached 2,005,651. This was achieved in just 15 days since its release. It became the first Korean film to surpass 2 million viewers after ‘Veteran 2’ (7.52 million viewers). It is expected to soon surpass its break-even point (2.5 million viewers).
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ (directed by Barry Jenkins) couldn’t overcome the barrier set by ‘Firefighter,’ gathering only 44,984 viewers, starting in second place at the box office. ‘Crayon Shin-chan: Our Dinosaur Diary’ and ‘Moana 2’ (directed by Dave Davee Jr.) followed with 34,944 viewers and 24,674 viewers, respectively.
‘The Big Family’ (directed by Yang Woo-seok) stayed in the fifth box office position. On the same day, 17,918 viewers watched the film, bringing its cumulative total to 243,231 viewers. Meanwhile, ‘Firefighter’ is a work inspired by the 2001 Hongjedong fire disaster. It’s the story of firefighters who endeavored to extinguish the fire and rescue everyone.
