Seoul Western District Court Securities Firm Executive Involved in Disorder Appeals for Release, Claiming "I Have Walked the Right Path"

A securities firm executive involved in the disorder at the Seoul Western District Court appealed for release, stating, "I have walked the right path."

On the 30th of last month, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Woo-hyun) held a court hearing for the defendants facing charges including special intrusion into a contrived building.

Mr. Park, an executive of a securities firm who was arrested for participating in the disorder at the Seoul Western District Court on January 19, earnestly requested release during the bail hearing, saying, "I graduated from Seoul National University, received a KATUSA medal, and became the youngest executive in the securities industry, fulfilling my social responsibility."

In particular, Mr. Park appealed, "As an executive, I am a contract employee. If the detention period is prolonged, I will have no choice but to leave the company," expressing concerns that he could lose his job if his custody continues. He emphasized the necessity of his release, stating, "I have walked the path that I believe is right in the Republic of Korea."

The same court also conducted the first hearing for Mr. Son (36), who is accused of conspiring to commit arson alongside Mr. Shin, known as 'Two Block Man', during the disorder at the Seoul Western District Court.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Son, who has been indicted on charges of special building intrusion and attempted arson of a residential building, is accused of receiving a lighter fluid can from Mr. Shin and pouring fuel on the first floor of the courthouse.

Afterward, Mr. Shin allegedly threw burning paper inside the building, but the fire did not spread, resulting in an attempted arson. Mr. Son's defense claimed, "There is an on-duty public official in the courthouse; we did not conspire to start a fire."

Mr. Son is also accused of entering up to the 7th floor of the court, where the judges' offices are located, and as part of his defense strategy, he has requested Mr. Shin, who has been named as an accomplice, to testify as a witness.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for Mr. Son for May 26 at 10 AM.
