Incident of Election Candidate Poster Damage Occurs in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province
An incident of election candidate poster damage involving Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has occurred in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the Jeonju Wansan Police Station on the 16th, a report was received on the 15th stating that the poster of candidate Lee Jae-myung was damaged among the election candidate posters displayed on the exterior wall of an apartment in Seosin-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju.

The police immediately dispatched officers to the scene upon receiving the report and confirmed the damage to the poster. Following the investigation, they analyzed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and identified a young student, presumed to be a middle school student, as the suspect, who is currently under investigation.
Legal Punishments Related to Election Poster Damage
Damaging election posters constitutes a violation of the Public Official Election Act. According to Article 240 of the Public Official Election Act, a person who damages election posters can face imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won. However, in the case of minors, the severity of punishment may vary depending on their age and criminal responsibility.
A representative from the Jeonju Wansan Police Station stated, "We recently received a report regarding a violation of the Public Official Election Act. Currently, a student has been identified as a suspect, and we plan to continue with the detailed investigation."
