Elderly Couple with Cancer Isolated by Heavy Rain Rescued by Helicopter
An elderly couple in their 80s, isolated in a pension due to road damage caused by a landslide from heavy rain in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, was safely rescued by helicopter after three days.

According to the fire department on the 23rd, the couple, both in their 80s, were successfully rescued by helicopter around 10:31 AM on the 22nd from a pension located in Singan-ri, Gapyeong-eup.
They became isolated because nearby roads were cut off due to the landslide caused by heavy rainfall in the Gapyeong area on the 20th.
Notably, the male was a lung cancer patient and required medical attention.
Rapid Response from Health Center Staff Ensures Successful Rescue

The role of health center staff was crucial during the rescue process. On the 21st, a health center employee visited the pension to check on the health of the 80-year-old male lung cancer patient and discovered that the couple was isolated. The employee immediately reported the situation to emergency services.
The fire department arrived at the scene that afternoon, but due to difficulties with vehicle access, they requested a helicopter rescue the following day.
Ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups such as the elderly and patients during disaster situations is vital, and this case highlights the successful collaboration between the local healthcare system and emergency services.
Fortunately, the rescued couple reportedly did not experience any significant health issues despite three days of isolation.
