Driver who crashed into store and fled in India offers ‘absurd’ excuse when caught by police

Drunk Driver Flees After Plowing into Sidewalk in Seoul

An incident occurred in downtown Seoul where a vehicle, driven by a person under the influence of alcohol, crashed into a sidewalk, resulting in a series of accidents before fleeing the scene.

On the 3rd, the National Police Agency’s official YouTube channel released a video titled "Driver Who Plowed into Sidewalk… Says He Doesn't Remember?" According to the footage, a white passenger car driving on a road in Seoul veered into the sidewalk and began to indiscriminately charge ahead.

The vehicle in question damaged a parking barrier and rammed into a building shutter, subsequently destroying plastic boxes placed in front of a convenience store. The driver fled the scene without taking any action.

Police who promptly arrived at the scene identified the fleeing vehicle through witness statements and CCTV footage analysis and initiated a search along the expected escape route.

The problematic vehicle attempted an illegal U-turn at an intersection but crashed into a sidewalk curb and guardrail. Although it momentarily halted, the driver soon continued to flee.

Later, police finally spotted the fleeing vehicle about 1.2 km away from the initial accident site at an elementary school intersection and demanded the driver disembark.

The arrested driver, Mr. A, stated to the police, "I was drinking and heading home," adding, "I have no memory of the accident."

Results from the breathalyzer test revealed that Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was confirmed to be at a level that would warrant a license suspension.

The police are conducting an investigation into Mr. A for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and failing to take action after the accident).
