Doyoung, First Performance of ‘The Man Who Laughs’… “Nervous but Will Work Hard”

Doyoung of 'NCT' is making strides as a musical actor. He will perform the first stage of 'The Man Who Laughs' at the Opera Theater of the Seoul Arts Center on the 10th. Ahead of the performance, he shared his honest thoughts and passion for musicals.

He stated, "The moment I stand on stage, I will become 'Gwynplaine' and meet the audience," adding, "I am nervous, but I will work hard on the performance prepared with the staff and fellow actors, so I ask for your interest."

'The Man Who Laughs' is set in 17th century England, where class discrimination was severe. Through 'Gwynplaine', who has a terrifying face but possesses innocence, the musical highlights the value of human dignity and equality.

Doyoung has taken on the role of 'Gwynplaine', the protagonist. Despite having a look that makes people laugh, Gwynplaine's life is filled with pain and tragedy. A representative stated, "Doyoung is expected to portray Gwynplaine’s extreme situations loaded with pain and tragedy through lyrical sensibility and solid vocal skills."

Doyoung is returning to the musical stage for the first time in about four years. He previously impressed with his role as 'Axel von Fersen' in 'Marie Antoinette' in 2021, earning praise for his delicate emotional acting.

Meanwhile, 'The Man Who Laughs' will run at the Opera Theater of the Seoul Arts Center until March 9.
