
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk will receive a lifetime achievement award at the American TV series awards for his work on the 'Squid Game' series.
The Gosem Film and Media Institute announced on its website on the 25th that the winners of the 'Gosem 2025 TV Awards' (hereinafter referred to as Gosem Awards) have been selected. The awards ceremony will take place on June 2nd in New York.
Director Hwang has been chosen as the recipient of the Creator Tribute award. This award is given to creators who have made an impact through television programs. This is Director Hwang's first lifetime achievement award.
The Gosem Awards commented, "The journey of 'Squid Game' has been extraordinary," adding that it has garnered global acclaim and awards, setting a milestone in modern TV history.
Furthermore, they stated, "Director Hwang has broken down genre boundaries, combining intricate narratives with sharp social criticism. He created a global phenomenon with 'Squid Game.'"
'Squid Game' recorded over 1.65 billion viewing hours within just 28 days of its release. It achieved six Emmy Awards. Director Hwang became the first Asian to win the Outstanding Directing award for a Drama Series.
Season 2 also set the record for the highest number of views on Netflix in its first week. It entered the list of non-English-speaking popular series within three days. Season 3 is scheduled to be released on June 27.
Meanwhile, the Gosem Awards is an independent film and drama awards ceremony held annually since 1991. 'Squid Game' won the award for 'Groundbreaking Series over 40 Minutes' at the Gosem Awards in 2021.
