“Describe the pilot’s expression just before the crash”… Controversy over the problem at the metropolitan area art college practical exam

Suwon University Art Competition Controversy

Suwon University, located in Gyeonggi Province, is embroiled in social controversy after posing a question about the 'expression of a pilot just before an airplane crash' in an art competition for high school students.

According to the education community on the 26th, the issue arose in the sculpture section of the competition, where students were asked to choose one of two prompts to work on. The problematical prompt asked them to describe the 'expression of a male pilot in his 40s just before a plane crash.'

As this fact became known through students participating in the competition, many people criticized it, saying it reminded them of the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy that occurred on December 29 of last year at Muan International Airport.

Concerns were raised about the insensitivity of posing such questions during a sensitive time related to aviation safety, disregarding the pain of the bereaved families.

On Suwon University's online community 'Everytime,' criticism arose with comments like, "What if there were family members of the victims among the test-takers?" and voices of reflection such as, "This is embarrassing, and I feel so sorry for the bereaved families."

Netizens also pointed out issues with the university's question-setting process, questioning, "Was there no one with common sense when the questions were set?"

In response, Suwon University acknowledged their negligence in the question-setting process and officially expressed regret over the controversy.

This incident serves as a reminder of how careful the question-setting for practical tests related to college admissions must be.
