Democratic Party’s Jin Seong-jun: “Tip-off received about the smuggling of a specialized ‘killer’s sniper rifle’ for use in a 2km intersection”

Lee Jae-myung's Candidate Safety Threat Report Raises Tension in Democratic Party

The Democratic Party of Korea is on high alert due to reports of suspected smuggling of sniper rifles targeting presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.

Jin Sung-jun, the policy chief of the Democratic Party's election committee, appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 13th and stated that the police are currently investigating seven terror-related reports, with the party receiving significantly more threats than that.

Rep. Jin particularly emphasized the seriousness of a report stating that a "monster sniper rifle with a range of 2 km has been smuggled in," noting that "a range of 2 km is indeed a sniper rifle for professional killers."

While he did not directly conclude that the rifle was aimed at candidate Lee Jae-myung, he expressed concern over the possibility, questioning, "Isn't there a high likelihood that such rifles would be smuggled in at this time?"

Threat of 'Standing Order' from Special Forces

Rep. Jin also mentioned the so-called 'Standing Order,' a directive for the assassination of a specific politician handed down to elite North Korean special forces.

He explained, "A Standing Order remains valid once given and cannot be revoked unless the command issuer specifically cancels it."

He particularly noted that reports have been received indicating that special forces personnel who received the Standing Order are still active and maintain ties to the military, even though they have retired from units like HID.

Rep. Jin added that he is paying special attention to this matter, following reports that it was a directive given by former Intelligence Command Chief Roh Sang-won during the martial law on 12·3.

These safety threat reports are heightening the tension in the political arena as the election approaches, with the Democratic Party reportedly taking measures to strengthen the security for candidate Lee Jae-myung.

The police are also conducting investigations into related reports and are making thorough efforts to ensure the safety of politicians during the election period.
