Lee Jae-myung, confirmed as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate… "I will win, having received the people's command"
Lee Jae-myung has been confirmed as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate with overwhelming support.
On the 27th, right after being elected as the candidate, Lee expressed a strong determination in his acceptance speech, stating, "I will win, having received the people's command."
Lee declared, "The real Republic of Korea starts today; I will be at the center of that great journey," sharing his aspirations.
He also mentioned, "The Democratic Party and the people have commanded a decisive recovery of power to eradicate the old era of insurrection and regression, and to open a new era of popular sovereignty and hope."
He emphasized the "earnest desire to achieve democracy, human rights, peace and safety, recovery and growth, integration and happiness."
He referred to the other candidates who competed in the primary, saying, "From now on, Kim Dong-yeon's vision is my vision. From now on, Kim Kyung-soo's dream is my dream," revealing his will to succeed as a united team.
Candidate Lee mentioned the late former Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, pledging, "I will ensure that my name is clearly engraved in the wise choices they made by decidedly winning the 'fourth democratic government'."
Emphasizing national unity and targeting moderate voters
In his speech, Candidate Lee identified 'national unity' as the most urgent task.
He stated, "I will fulfill the mission of politics and the primary duty of the president, which is to achieve national unity," promising to close the door on the old era marred by inequality, despair, conflict, and confrontation, and to open an era of happiness filled with hope and love through national integration.
His message aimed to encompass not only the party's support base but also moderate voters.
He asserted, "This is not a confrontation between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party, but a confrontation between the future and the past," adding, "There is no time left to be tied to the past, bound by ideologies and factions, and to repeat division and conflict."
He further highlighted the pragmatic image he has promoted, suggesting, "Let’s leap from 'materialism based on sufficiency' to 'well-beingism', and advance to be the 'real Republic of Korea' leading the world."
He concluded his speech by saying, "Let’s join hands and complete the revolution of light," promising to create a new Republic of Korea in line with the people's aspirations and the party members' hopes.
Meanwhile, in this Democratic Party's 21st presidential candidate selection race, Candidate Lee was ultimately confirmed as the party's presidential candidate, recording an overwhelming 89.77% of the votes.
