K2 Tank Local Production in Poland Elevates Global Status of K-Defense

Minister of National Defense An Gyu-baek visited the local production site of the K2 tank in Poland, confirming the global competitiveness of South Korea's defense industry.

The Ministry of National Defense reported that Minister An stated his impressions after touring the local production facilities for the K2 tank at the Bumar factory in Poland on the 1st (local time).

Minister An said, "Seeing the production of the K2 tank from South Korea taking place locally allows me to truly realize the power of our K-defense reaching out to the world."

He continued, "I would like to express my deep respect, trust, and gratitude on behalf of the people to all those government officials and defense industry personnel who have spared no effort to achieve this goal," commending the hard work of those on-site.

Significance of the K2 Tank's Entry into Poland with Record Defense Exports

The recent export of the K2 tank to Poland is regarded as a historic achievement for South Korea's defense industry.

Minister An visited Poland shortly after taking office to attend the signing ceremony for the second implementation contract of the K2 tank with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak.

The recently concluded negotiations for the second export of K2 tanks to Poland earlier this month involve a contract amount of approximately $6.5 billion (about 9 trillion won), making it the largest single defense export in history.

Out of the total supply of 180 units, 117 will be produced and supplied by Hyundai Rotem, while 63 units will be locally produced by the Polish company PGZ.
