Arson Scene of 'Bongeun-dong Apartment Fire'

A male in his 60s who set fire to an apartment in Bongeun-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, was found dead at the scene.

On the 21st, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency reported that the man, identified as Mr. A, was discovered dead in the 4th-floor hallway of the apartment where the fire broke out at 8:17 AM.

Mr. A is believed to have used a tool resembling a pesticide sprayer to ignite the fire in the apartment.

Afterward, various social media platforms and online communities captured scenes of a man presumed to be Mr. A starting the fire.

According to the released photos, Mr. A was wearing a white hat and mask, connecting a liquid from a white container to the pesticide sprayer, and igniting it.

As a result of Mr. A's arson, a total of 14 casualties have been reported so far. The firefighting authorities arrived on the scene and declared a first-stage disaster response at 8:30 AM, deploying 153 personnel and 45 pieces of equipment, successfully extinguishing the fire by 9:54 AM.

The fire department is currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage while analyzing the arson tools used by Mr. A, the circumstances of his death, and the contents of any potential suicide note.
