Elderly Couple with Cancer Rescued by Helicopter after Heavy Rain Isolation
An elderly couple in their 80s, who are cancer patients, were rescued safely by helicopter after being isolated at a pension for three days due to a landslide caused by heavy rain in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

According to the fire authorities on the 23rd, the couple was successfully rescued by helicopter on the morning of the 22nd at around 10:31 AM from a pension located in Seung-an, Gapyeong-eup.
It was confirmed that the couple had become isolated when landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the Gapyeong area on the 20th blocked nearby roads.
Notably, the male was a lung cancer patient and required medical attention.
Quick Response from Health Center Staff Ensured Successful Rescue

The role of health center staff was crucial during the rescue process. On the 21st, a health center employee visited the pension to check on the health status of the elderly male lung cancer patient. During the visit, the staff discovered the couple was isolated and immediately reported the situation to emergency services.
Fire authorities arrived on-site that afternoon, but due to challenging access for vehicles, a helicopter rescue was requested for the following day.
Ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups such as the elderly and patients during disaster situations is crucial. This case exemplified the effective collaboration between the local medical system and fire authorities.
Fortunately, the rescued couple was reported to be in relatively good health despite three days of isolation.
