Coupang Play's 'SNL Korea Season 6' has been swept up in controversy. It has been criticized for allegedly making a sexual mockery of MBC-TV's 'Jeongnyeoni.'
The 9th episode was released by 'SNL Korea Season 6' on the 26th, featuring actress Go Joon-hee as the host. She delivered bold comedic performances.
A new skit with the same name as the parody of 'Jeongnyeoni' was introduced. It was set around an audition scenario for regular performances by a national drama troupe.
Comedian Ahn Young-mi introduced herself as 'Jeonyeoni.' She expressed her ambitions by saying she would present a more daring version of 'Chunhyang.'
A phrase from the pansori 'Chunhyangga' was adapted. The song was altered with lyrics like "Come here, let's do it naked" and "Come here, my disheveled hair."
During this segment, she made gestures emphasizing her chest. At times, she depicted motions that seemed to mimic sexual acts, such as shaking with her hands in front.
Jeong Irang, who watched this, remarked, "Stop. I can't watch any longer. Just watching makes me feel like I'll get pregnant," yet still offered her the role, saying it might help with birth policies.
After the broadcast, criticism arose. It was argued that it was mockery, not parody. Opinions surfaced suggesting it negatively impacted the message in 'Jeongnyeoni' and the reevaluation of national drama.
Moreover, the character Jeongnyeoni in the show is a minor. One netizen criticized, "Since it depicts sexual scenarios involving a minor, it could be considered sexual harassment."
Previously, 'SNL Korea Season 6' faced allegations of mocking novelist Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature win and 'New Jeans' Hani's National Assembly appearance.
