Chinese Released After Filming Military Base… Caught Again Filming ‘U.S. Military Base’ Without Regret

Chinese Nationals Caught Filming Military Base Released Again

Recently, the Southern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency's Security Investigation Division dispatched officers after receiving a report that two Chinese nationals, including Mr. A, were filming fighter jets near the U.S. military facility at Osan Air Base (K-55) in Pyeongtaek.

They were detained on suspicion of violating the Military Base Protection Act, but the police released them again, stating that "there are no violations of current laws."

Mr. A and the others were found to be the same individuals who had illegally taken photos at the same location just two days earlier.

At that time, the police concluded the investigation jointly with the National Intelligence Service and the Armed Forces Counterintelligence Command, determining that there were no grounds for anti-aircraft charges.

However, given that teenage Chinese nationals were charged for similar actions just a month ago, there are voices questioning this recent decision.

The police stated, "After analyzing the photographs taken, we found no violations of current laws," and released Mr. A and the others.

They filmed aircraft using high-end camera equipment and explained that it does not violate related laws, as the filming took place outside of restricted areas. A police official stated, "After investigating Mr. A and the others as voluntary participants, we judged there were no violations and released them."

This incident has sparked controversy among legal circles and the public. Some argue that stricter investigations are needed for foreigners repeatedly filming around sensitive military facilities.

However, the police maintain their stance that they cannot take further actions unless there are violations of current laws.
