American actress Cate Blanchett made a surprise appearance in the Netflix series 'Squid Game 3.'
'Squid Game 3' was released on the 27th. The story unfolds with Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) stepping back into the game, the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) participating while concealing his identity, and the fates of the survivors.
In the final episode, the Front Man plays a ddakji game in an alley in Los Angeles, USA. During this scene, Cate Blanchett appears as the "Ddakji Girl." She is seen dressed in a suit, with her blonde hair neatly tied back. She boldly slaps her opponent's cheek and shares a knowing glance with the Front Man. Despite her brief appearance, she left a strong impression.
Director Hwang previously revealed the reason for casting Blanchett during Netflix's 'Tudum 2025' event. "I thought it would be more dramatic and interesting to have a woman as a recruiter," he stated. He added, "Cate Blanchett possesses an unmatched charisma. We needed someone who could dominate the screen with just a few lines, and she was the perfect fit."
There are speculations about the production of an American version of 'Squid Game.' However, no official information has been released. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk has denied the possibility of a next season aside from the spin-off.
The evaluations of 'Squid Game 3' have been mixed. Many critics noted that it lacked the freshness of Season 1. On Rotten Tomatoes, a site for movie and TV series ratings, it scored 52 points out of 100, falling short of a favorable review.
