BLACKPINK's Rosé's song "Apartment" is causing a sensation, boosting the popularity of a song released 42 years ago with the same title due to the new track's success.
Rosé released the pre-release single "Apartment" from her first full album "rosie" on the 18th. "Apartment" is a duet in collaboration with Bruno Mars.
It swept various charts. According to the latest Spotify tally, "Apartment" reached the third spot on the "Daily Top Songs Global" chart and has maintained the number one position for eight consecutive days.
The music video is also hugely popular. In just five days since its release on the 23rd, it surpassed 100 million views on YouTube, reaching 173.52 million views as of the morning of the 28th.
What's unusual is that the song with the same name has benefited as well. "Apartment" by singer Yoon Soo-il reached 756 on the Melon daily chart as of the 26th.
It's not just the Melon chart. On the Genie chart, "Apartment" topped the real-time search query, leading to a dramatic increase in daily streaming numbers.
It was found that both hits occurred within the week following Rosé's new song release (18th-24th), with an increase of 190% in streaming numbers compared to the previous week.
A video titled "Apartment Comment Compilation" posted on KBS's YouTube channel "Again Gayo Top 10" is also gaining attention, amassing over 100,000 plays just two days after its release.
Many comments mentioned discovering the song because of Rosé's "Apartment." Reactions included witty ones like "The most well-rebuilt apartment in current times."
Yoon Soo-il is also aware of this phenomenon. He expressed his thoughts on his song being highlighted during MBC Standard FM's "Son Tae-jin's Trot Radio" on the 23rd.
He praised the idea by Rosé and Bruno Mars, saying, "I think it's very positive for a global activity to have the same subject of apartments."
He added, "Music trends have changed significantly in the last 40 years. Rosé's song is addictive, but I too never missed the number one spot in karaoke for 10 years back then."
Meanwhile, Yoon Soo-il's "Apartment" is a representative song of the 1980s, considered a pioneer of city music. It has been frequently used as a cheer song for professional and college sports.
