Victim of 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' Incident Faces 'Retaliatory Counterclaim'
Kim Jin-joo (pseudonym), the victim of the 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' incident, has been sued for intimidation by a secondary perpetrator.
On the 23rd, the Eunpyeong Police Station in Seoul announced that they have transferred the case in which 28-year-old A has accused Kim of intimidation to the police station with jurisdiction over Kim's residence.
A is a person who has been brought to trial for committing 'secondary harm' by sending numerous sexually humiliating and disgusting messages to victim Kim through social media.
At that time, it was revealed that A sent Kim messages containing derogatory expressions towards women, stating that she 'should be hit.'
In May of last year, A claimed he was 'threatened' because of a post by Kim on social media that mentioned his ID, saying, "Live your life before your real name is revealed" and "Before your real name and face are exposed, stop working at the PC room and get a real job," and subsequently sued Kim.
In response, Kim stated, "The only person I had sued for defamation is now retaliating with a counterclaim," and added, "I will fight to the end."
Earlier, in November of last year, the first trial court sentenced A to one year in prison with a two-year probation, and ordered him to attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures and a 30-hour stalking treatment program.
The prosecution and A have filed an appeal against the first trial's ruling.
Meanwhile, the 'Busan Roundhouse Kick' incident occurred on May 22, 2022, at around 5 AM, when a man in his 30s named Lee followed Kim, who was returning home in Seomyeon, Busanjin-gu, intending to sexually assault her.
The perpetrator, Lee, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Supreme Court last year.
