[Breaking News] Kim Geon-hee’s ‘Substantial Examination of Warrants’ Concludes After 4 Hours… ‘Awaiting’ at the Southern Detention Center

Kim Geon-hee's warrant review concluded after 4.5 hours

The substantive examination of the warrant for Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, ended after approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The review started at 10:10 AM in Room 321 of the Seoul Central District Court and concluded around 2:30 PM. It is reported that the special prosecution team, led by special prosecutor Min Jung-ki, completed their arguments by 1 PM, took a five-minute recess, and then Kim Geon-hee's legal team's arguments continued for about an hour.

Large presence of prosecutors and defense attorneys… The main issue is 'risk of evidence destruction'

In the review, eight prosecutors from the special prosecution team, including chief prosecutor Han Moon-hyeok, attended, while Kim Geon-hee's side was represented by attorneys Yoo Jung-hwa, Choi Ji-woo, and Chae Myung-sung.

The special prosecution emphasized the need for arrest, citing that Kim Geon-hee denied all charges during a face-to-face investigation on the 6th and stated, "The possibility of evidence destruction is high." On the other hand, it is reported that Kim Geon-hee's side defended themselves by highlighting their sincere cooperation during the summons investigation and the absence of flight risk.

Decision on arrest anticipated tonight

After the review, Kim Geon-hee is expected to move to the Seoul Southern Detention Center to await the result. The decision on the arrest is expected to be made as early as tonight or by early the next morning at the latest.

If the arrest is determined, it would be the first instance in the country's constitutional history where a former president and their spouse are both arrested simultaneously. Former President Yoon is currently incarcerated on charges of insurrection leadership and other offenses.
