Flood Advisory Issued for Jungnangcheong, Flood Alerts for 9 Districts in Seoul

The Han River Flood Control Center issued a flood advisory for Jungnangcheong in Seoul at 1:10 PM on the 13th. This alert targets cities including Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi Province, as well as the districts of Gwangjin, Nowon, Dobong, Dongdaemun, Seongdong, Seongbuk, and Jungnang in Seoul.

A flood advisory is issued when the water level of a river reaches 50% of the planned flood level. The planned flood level for Jungnang Bridge is 7.89 meters.

The water level at Jungnang Bridge is expected to reach the flood advisory threshold of 5 meters at around 1:40 AM today. The levee height has been confirmed at 9.28 meters.

The Seoul city government is currently restricting access to all 29 rivers within the city, including Cheonggyecheon and Anyangcheon.

Three roads are also under restriction: the road beneath Jungnang Bridge has been closed since 11:25 AM, the Gaehwa Underground Road since 11:53 AM, and the Dongbu Expressway (in both directions) since 12:04 PM.

Increased Risk of Flooding in Seoul Due to Heavy Rain

A flood alert has been issued for nine districts in Seoul, including Gangseo, Eunpyeong, Seodaemun, Mapo, Jongno, Nowon, Dobong, Gangbuk, and Seongbuk.

Heavy rainfall is occurring in Seoul today, with Gimpo Airport experiencing an astonishing 112.2 mm of rain within an hour from 11 AM to 12 PM.

To minimize damage from the rain, the Seoul city government has implemented measures to restrict access to three roads including the Dongbu Expressway and all 29 rivers.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heavy rain advisories are currently in effect primarily in the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province as of 12 PM on the 13th.

Areas are experiencing extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunder, with rain rates reaching 30 to 100 mm per hour. A heavy rain warning has been issued for all areas of Seoul except the southeastern region.

The recorded rainfall between 11 AM and 12 PM today included 112.2 mm at Gimpo Airport in Seoul, 105 mm in Gyeyangju, 100 mm in Gimpo, 34.6 mm in Incheon, and 30 mm in Seoul.

The accumulated rainfall from midnight to 12 PM today recorded 217 mm in Jangbongdo, Incheon, 213.5 mm at Gimpo Airport, 154.2 mm in Incheon, 106.5 mm in Seoul, 40.6 mm in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and 53 mm and 49.1 mm in Hoengseong and Wonju, Gangwon Province, respectively.
