Deserter from Military Base in Gangwon Province Captured After 2 Hours
A soldier who deserted in an unarmed state from a military base located in Gangwon Province, Gangneung, was captured about 2 hours later.
According to the Army on the 18th, Corporal A suddenly left the base while on guard duty at approximately 7:47 PM on that day.
Corporal A discarded the issued firearm and blank ammunition near the base and fled.

As soon as the base confirmed the desertion, an emergency response system was activated.
The abandoned firearm and blank ammunition were promptly recovered, and a manhunt for the deserter was launched in cooperation with local police.

About 2 hours after the desertion, at approximately 10:02 PM, A's apprehension was successfully made at a toll booth in Goesan, Chungbuk.
At that time, Corporal A was traveling by taxi.
