[Breaking News] Court dismisses injunction recognizing Kim Moon-soo as People Power Party presidential candidate status.

The court dismissed Kim Moon-soo's request for a provisional injunction… A 'green light' for the unification roadmap of the People Power Party

The court has dismissed all requests for a provisional injunction filed by Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, seeking to prohibit the holding of the party convention and to recognize his status as a presidential candidate.

As a result, the unification process for the presidential candidate of the People Power Party is expected to proceed as originally planned.

The Seoul Southern District Court's Civil Division 51 (Chief Judge Kwon Seong-soo) ruled against Kim's application to recognize his status as a presidential candidate, as well as the application filed by seven non-parliamentary party committee members supporting him to prohibit the holding of the party convention.

Initially, the non-parliamentary committee members supporting Kim submitted a request for an injunction on the 7th to prevent the national committee meeting and party convention, and Kim himself additionally filed a request on the 8th seeking recognition of his status as a presidential candidate. This was a legal measure aimed at stopping the unification roadmap being pursued by the leadership of the People Power Party.

The unification roadmap seems to be proceeding without disruption.

With the court's dismissal, the unification schedule for the presidential candidate of the People Power Party by its leadership will likely be executed as planned. The party leadership intends to conduct a public opinion poll (50%) and a party member vote (50%) over two days, from the 8th to the 9th, and finalize the candidate through the national committee meeting on the 11th.

Kim's request for a provisional injunction to recognize his status as a presidential candidate is interpreted as an attempt to legally confirm that he has priority in party affairs and to block the leadership's move to deprive him of his candidacy and elect another candidate as the presidential nominee of the People Power Party.

The leadership of the People Power Party announced the schedule for the national committee and the party convention between the 8th and the 11th through an emergency response committee decision on the 5th. This is to provide a procedural backdrop for replacing the party's presidential candidate in the event that a single candidate emerges from the unification process.

According to the party's constitution and regulations, a party convention must be held if one candidate wins the unification primary to allow for a candidate change.

Kim's side has criticized this unification roadmap as a maneuver by the party leadership to undermine him and has strongly opposed it. However, with the court's decision, Kim's legal pushback has effectively been hampered.
