“Born Again: Cockroach vs. Car Wheel”… The Level of Questions Needed for the National Power Party’s Primary Debate to Capture MZ Generation’s Interest

MZ Generation Targeted Questions at the National Assembly Party's Presidential Candidate Debate

The National Assembly Party's presidential candidate debate caught attention with questions and answers aimed at capturing the MZ generation.

On the 20th of the month, at the ASSA Art Hall in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, the '1st National Assembly Party Primary Group B Debate' was held, where the Central Student Committee of the National Assembly Party conducted a 'balance game' to test the candidates' quick thinking and decisiveness.

The balance game presents the respondent with two difficult choices in one question, requiring them to select one.

In a practice question, Nam Ha-kyung, spokesperson for the National Assembly Party's Central Student Committee, asked, "If you had to choose one to be reborn as, which would it be?" offering 'to be reborn as a cockroach' and 'to be reborn as a car wheel.'

Candidate Han Dong-hoon chose 'cockroach,' explaining, "Isn’t living better than being an object?"

Candidate Hong Joon-pyo held his sign so that the corner faced forward, indicating he would not choose either option. When Nam asked, "Are you sure you won't consider one?" he refused, saying, "I don’t like both."

Candidate Na Kyung-won, who chose to be a cockroach, evaded when asked for his reason, saying, "I’d rather not say."

After both candidates declined to answer the practice question, Nam urged them to please choose one answer during the actual game.

The following question was, "If you must appoint one of the two as your lawyer: 1. A prosecutor impersonator, 2. An admission fraudster?"

In response to the question, Candidate Lee Cheol-woo interpreted, "Number one likely refers to Lee Jae-myung, and number two refers to Jo Kuk." He added, "I need neither, but since one is in prison, I can't use him as a lawyer."

Candidate Han also replied, "The person in number two is already in custody. He cannot defend himself." However, Candidate Hong again stated, "I don't want either."

Candidate Na remarked, "The impersonator seems very skilled at deceiving people," and added, "Let me tell Lee Jae-myung one thing. If you want to talk about growth, pass the special semiconductor law. If you’re just being cautious of the Minjoo Party, what growth can you achieve?"

The final question was, "If you are elected president, what would you want to do first: 1. Manage living expenses, 2. Meet with President Trump?"

In this case, Candidates Hong, Lee, Han Dong-hoon, and Na Kyung-won all chose 'to meet with President Trump,' setting aside 'to manage living expenses.'

Candidate Na stated, "The economy of the Republic of Korea is directly linked to diplomacy. Meeting President Trump first would also help manage living expenses." Candidate Han also said, "The goal is 'to manage living expenses,' and meeting with President Trump to resolve this is the way."

Candidate Hong emphasized, "The most urgent issue that needs addressing once elected president is the South Korea-US issues," adding, "How can we bring back the international order that President Trump shakes up in our favor is the most urgent alpha and omega."

Candidate Lee articulated, "If US President Trump participates in APEC held in Gyeongju this year and brings Russian President Putin and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un with him, we can create a foundation for unifying Korea for our descendants. Meeting is the top priority."

Meanwhile, the National Assembly Party also inquired about candidates' MBTI types in both debate groups.

The day before, during Group A's debate, candidates Kim Moon-soo, Ahn Cheol-soo, and Yoo Jeong-bok introduced themselves as 'ENTJ (the Commander)' aside from candidate Yang Hyang-ja, who is an 'ENFJ (the Protagonist).'

When the majority claimed to be the representative leader type known as 'ENTJ,' the moderator asked, "Did you conduct the test properly? Was it done fairly?"

In Group B's debate, only Candidate Han Dong-hoon answered 'ENTJ.' Candidate Lee identified as 'ESFJ (the Consul),' Candidate Na as 'ENFJ,' and Candidate Hong as 'ESTJ (the Executive).'

Thus, all eight candidates from the National Assembly Party's presidential primary were revealed to be extroverted (E) and judging (J) types.

As the balance game and personality-type related questions continued, unrelated to policy proposals, Candidate Ahn commented after the debate, "If it had been conducted like a regular debate, we could have discussed policies in greater depth."

Meanwhile, on the 21st, Han Min-soo, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, appeared on SBS radio and remarked, "I expected the candidates of the National Assembly Party to come forward and sincerely kneel to apologize to the public at least during the primary."

He further pointed out, "But just look at the questions they came out with. Would you rather be reborn as a car wheel or as a cockroach? Why are these questions even being asked?"
