Director Bong Joon-ho’s new film, ‘Mickey 17’ (working title), will be premiered in Korea on January 28, 2025.

The release of ‘Mickey 17’ has been continuously postponed due to the Hollywood strike effects. The Korean release date has been confirmed on the 14th, with a global release scheduled for January 31, 2025. In Korea, the film will be released on January 28th to coincide with the Lunar New Year holiday.

Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, expressed excitement, “The entire team at Warner Bros. is thrilled to present ‘Mickey 17’ first in the director’s homeland.”

He praised Bong’s creativity, stating, “Director Bong’s imagination always takes the audience beyond their expectations. ‘Mickey 17’ will surprise everyone with its unique story and characters, unpredictable developments, humor, and production quality.”

‘Mickey 17’ is based on Edward Ashton’s novel ‘Mickey 7’, published in 2022. It tells the story of a clone who is deployed to colonize an ice-covered planet.

The film stars Robert Pattinson (as Mickey Barnes), Naomi Ackie (as Nasha Ejaya), Steven Yeun (as Berto Gomez), Toni Collette (as Gwen Johansen), and Mark Ruffalo (as Hieronymus Marshall).

‘Mickey 17’ is Bong’s first project after ‘Parasite’. It is produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of ‘Plan B’, Bong’s production company ‘Offscreen’, and Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company.
